Within Wild was born from a simple belief — that the ancient ritual of heat, cold, and stillness has the power to transform how we feel. We built it on the water, in one of British Columbia's most breathtaking settings, so that power is available to everyone willing to seek it.
The Story
Within Wild began the way most meaningful things do — with a feeling. A feeling that something was missing in the way we live. That the pace of modern life had become incompatible with what our bodies and minds actually need.
The Scandinavian sauna tradition understands this intuitively. Heat the body deeply. Then shock it with cold. Then rest. Repeat. This cycle — done right, in the right setting — produces something remarkable. Clarity. Calm. Presence. Joy.
We found that setting on Howe Sound. The mountains. The ocean. The silence that descends when you're on the water, watching mist move across granite peaks. That's Within Wild.

The Location
Situated 55 kilometres north of Vancouver on the Sea-to-Sky corridor, Britannia Beach is where the mountains drop into Howe Sound. It is wild, accessible, and genuinely beautiful in a way that photographs can only approximate.
The drive from Vancouver takes under an hour. The drive from Squamish, less than fifteen minutes. Whistler visitors pass through. And yet, on the water at Britannia Beach, the feeling is of complete remoteness. That contradiction — easy to reach, hard to leave — is exactly what we were looking for.
We park our sauna where the water is clean, the views are uninterrupted, and the only sound you're likely to hear is birdsong and the soft lap of salt water against wood.
Getting Here
The People Behind It
"I'd been taking cold plunges in Howe Sound for years. The sauna was always the missing piece — somewhere warm, private, and beautiful to return to. I couldn't find it, so I built it."
Within Wild was founded by a Sea-to-Sky local who has spent the better part of two decades working, living, and building in the Howe Sound corridor. A background in marine construction and a lifelong obsession with cold-water swimming converged into what Within Wild is today.
Every detail — from the wood species used in the sauna to the towel provider to the post-session refreshments — reflects a genuine love for this place and respect for the guests who make the journey here.
